Sod Kicker
Grass is doing us no favors.
Setting aside the   costs of maintenance, water, chemicals, and petroleum used in the pursuit of well groomed lawns, everywhere, I find it so hard to believe that we spend so much energy growing a plant that we can't even eat, drink, or smoke.  This just makes no sense!
In fact I have it on good authority that god hates sod.
Sod grass is non-native, so it won't feed the wildlife.  Sod grass is shallow rooted so it won't help water reach aquifers.  Sod grass is a mono-crop that robs the soil of nutrients.
I use a sod kicker available locally at Reddy Rents to help me replace sod with native plants that offer habitat to birds and butterflies and my favorite food producing plants.  If you're looking for a low walkable mix of plants that you won't have to mow or maintain with chemicals, go for creeping charlie and clover.  While they both bloom, creeping charlie can be used in beer making instead of hops, and clover will infuse the ground with nitrogen to help the plants around it.
Really, what is that grass doing for you?
Do us all a favor and KICK SOME GRASS.
